Save the Children - Alix's Story* April 01, 2021 Photo credit: Hanna Adcock / Save the Children*name changed to protect identity “So, you are from England and I am from Venezuela, and from Peru.” Alix* and her family were forced to move to Peru because of the social and economic crisis in Venezuela. She told us, “The best thing anyone did was buy me an ice cream – my grandma did that.” They’ve now been living in Lima for one and a half years. They were out of education for a while but are back in school now. “What I like about being five years old is playing with the “tabla”. I also like playing with my toys. I like to be with my cousin, my brother and my friend.” Save the Children is providing the family with cash payments, as part of a cash transfer programme we launched in Peru in response to the Venezuelan refugee crisis. The children have attended sessions at the Child Friendly Space which helps with sensitisation and provides practical and psychosocial support to migrant families. “By the way, how would the Queen of England be at Christmas? Have you been to the Castle of England? And how is the Queen?” Share on Facebook Tweet on Twitter Pin on Pinterest Email
